Coach Witgen started his career wrestling for Fraser
High School where he was a two time state qualifier
and placer, and runner up to Kevin Jackson in the state
freestyle tournament. He received a scholarship from
Grand Valley State, wrestling there on the varsity for
two years before transferring to Oakland University to
wrestle for the then Division 2 power. He left Oakland
University after red shirting his junior year, finishing
his college career with a winning record. Bill went on to
wrestle open in several national freestyle and
greco-roman events, capping his career with a tryout for
the 1988 world team.

Bill began his coaching career at Romeo High School
in the late 80's until the mid 90's. He also made
coaching stops at Warren Mott for two years and New
Haven for four years before arriving at Dakota in 2008.

Coach Witgen says "Dakota has been exciting and a
blessing in many ways, we have come very far in only a
year as a team, and I am excited about the upcoming
season after we put in so much work this spring and
summer. We will be young, after losing six seniors, but
our potential is just beginning to be tapped".
